Negroni Sbagliato

The Negroni Sbagliato refers to a ‘mistaken’ or ‘messed-up’ Negroni.

Everybody knows about the famous Negroni, the popular Italian cocktail, made of one-part gin, built over rocks and garnished with a slice of orange. The Negroni was born in 1920, precisely when a bartender replaced the soda water in the Americano with gin.

On the other hand, the term ‘Sbagliato’ refers to something that goes wrong.

Unlike the traditional Negroni which is reportedly a calculated recipe, the Negroni Sbagliato is referred to as a happy accident – a bartender somehow mistakenly added sparkling wine to the drink instead of gin.

This bungled drink, when made with sparkling wine or (in our case) prosecco, ends up becoming too-delicious, too-refreshing, slightly bitter, and a bubbly mistake.

Let’s hook you up with our state-of-the-art recipe for this delicious mess up.

Ingredients

For this recipe, we suggest using a Prosecco with a set of aromatics and floral notes – a prosecco with an orange zest finish would do just fine as well. We particularly suggest using Bottega Prosecco, a bottle having a combination of both.

  • 30ml Sweet vermouth
  • 30ml Campari
  • 30ml Prosecco with Orange zest lift
  • A few ice-cubes
  • 1 orange slice

The Equipment You’ll Need To Mess It Up

For this bubbly Negroni variation, you’ll only be needing:

  • 1 x mixing teaspoon
  • 1 x rocks glass

So, How Do You Make A Negroni Sbagliato?

  1. Fill the rocks glass with ice cubes and let it chill.
  2. Pour the sweet vermouth and Campari into the ice-filled glass.
  3. Gently add the prosecco and remember to pour it down a bar or a teaspoon – it will stop the bubbles roaming over the edge of the glass.
  4. Stir the contents in the glass well for 5-10 seconds.
  5. Garnish with an orange slice.

More About Negroni Sbagliato – A Happy Accident

If you’ve ever bunged up a cocktail, you’d know that there’s a room for both – you may either mess it up or you may end up producing a drink that’s even better. The Negroni Sbagliato is a classic example of the latter, a delicious and bubbly variation on one of the classics.

A beautiful amalgamation of sweet vermouth, Campari, prosecco, and that orange slice finish. Serve it on the rocks and let this year-round drink be your aperitif for the day.
